In the central region of France, Critt Z3T is considered to be a significant regional centre of expertise due to its activities and members, and is recognised by both the business and academic spheres. Its primary areas of expertise are industrial engineering and materials engineering (especially ceramics and enamel).
CRAFT, the Centre for Research into the Arts of Earth and Fire, created in Limoges in 1993 on the initiative of the Ministry for Culture, has developed a strong, living project that aims to create an experimental and artistic link between industrials, designers, architects and sculptors.
CRAFT invites artists, designers, and architects to work on a project using ceramics. A dual think tank is created: the industrials are encouraged to use design as the driving force for development; while we undertake "plastic" research using ceramics as the medium with artists.
CRAFT therefore demonstrates that artistic innovation can be a driving force behind economic development.
