Novel technology for structuring of zeolite and nanopowders (Ref : 10 SE 67BY 3JEY )

A Swedish SME, a spin-off from Stockholm University, has developed a novel technology for structuring nanopowders into porous macroscopic bodies, e.g. pellets, substrates, monoliths. Typical applications for the substrates are zeolite membranes for gas separation and zeolite pellets for separation of gases in pressure swing adsorption unit. The company is looking for industrial as well as academic partners for licensing, technical cooperation and joint research projects.

Description : The Nanomonolith patented technology provides a simple solution for the production of structured adsorbents with a unique combination of high mechanical strength, high surface area, and tailored structures. The technology is based on combining powder processing expertise, knowledge of properties and characteristics of various types of porous materials and understanding of the demands of the gas separation industry.

  • Structuring porous and nano powders into porous macroscopic bodies with high mechanical stability and without binders (patented NanoMonolith technology) for gas separation, catalytic and medical applications.
  • Structuring porous and nano powders into porous macroscopic bodies with high mechanical stability and with small amount of binders for gas separation applications

Currently they offer the following products utilizing described technologies :

  • zeolite supports/substrates Structured porous and nano powders into supports which can be used for membrane preparation. The structure of the supports can be tuned for production of gradient structure, with high mechanical stability and without binders for gas separation and catalytic.
  • Zeolite pellets Structuring porous and nano powders into porous macroscopic bodies with high mechanical stability and with small amount of binders for gas separation using pressure swing adsorption units.

The Swedish SME is looking for industrial and academic partners for further technical and commercial cooperation, licensing and joint RTD projects.

Innovations and advantages of the offer

The innovation lies in the preformed porous or nano powder (e.g. zeolite) available on the market combined with well-established pulsed current processing technique to produce mechanically stable porous pellets without binders. The technology provides high heating rates (more than 100 °C/min) to bond zeolite powders into strong monoliths with remaining high porosity and high activity. The advantages of the technologies to produce structured porous materials : higher surface area- higher gas adsorption capacity, higher mechanical stability – longer life time/higher stability in harsh environment ; no binders (or small amount of binders) – using only the original material for structuring. The technology can process different porous powders e.g. zeolite, silicalite, metal oxides and metal oxide nanopowders.
