Nano-particles are particles which have a diameter between 1 - 100 nm. The material properties of the nano-particles may differ depending on their size. Therefore being able to control the size of nano-particles means being in command of the material properties. Nano-particles can be generated via different methods such as induced plasma, flame and sol-gel (wet chemical) methods.

Coating application is one of the key areas of sol-gel method. Sol-gel supplies many perceived advantages in compare to conventional methods such as ; the ability to coat large, curved substrates using simple deposition equipment and being cost effective. Anti-reflection coatings are one of the first application areas of sol-gel method.

A Turkish company well versed in sol-gel Silica (SiO2) coating on glass for obtaining anti-reflection, coats the glass with Silica (SiO2), by dipping method and acquires 2% overall reflection. The company has developed a technique for attaining Silica (SiO2) nano-particles in desired size. As the size of the nano-particles alters, the behaviour also differs. Therefore the method developed by the Turkish company offers the opportunity to produce Silica (SiO2) nano-particles with desired properties. The regarded Silica (SiO2) coating can be applied on glass and light permeable plastic surfaces.
